Nagaland Designers’ Association is going to organize the first edition of Nagaland Fashion Week from June 22 to June24 at Hotel Theja Fort, Dimapur.

Revealing the news to the media fraternity here at Circuit House, president of NDA Rosou Rhi said that though the decision of organizing such event was taken in the year 2011, it took more than five years to organize the first fashion week due to various circumstances and now it is going to be a yearly event.

The 3-day event will have three categories viz. emergent, novice and enthusiast. In the emergent category, those who have completed their fashion designing courses can participate, while those who are yet going through their training can take part in the novice category. The enthusiast category is open for only those who have received no form of training but are skilled and established. The winner of the emergent category will get entry to Northeast Fashion Week; the winner of novice category will receive one month internship on fashion designing and the winner of the enthusiast category will receive three month training in fashion designing. The registration for the event is open till June20.

The purpose of the event is to promote local talents and encourage them to take up professions in the fashion industry and being these skill based professions, I would make them self-reliant.

The judges for the show would be Zubeno Mozhui, director of Hope Centre for Excellence, Bambi Kevichusa, senior designer and pattern designer Benthungo Kitan.

Besides Rhi, secretary of NDA Modovina Mocha, event coordinator Kavil Kiba Swu and asst. event coordinator Piketo Zhimomi also interacted with the media persons.

The show will be sponsored by Directorate of Employment, Skill Development and Entertainment, Directorate of Women Resource Development and Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency besides others. 15 participants will be participating in this year’s edition.
